Itä-Pasila
"What does it mean to inherit a city?"
Through a collective and experimental cinematic narrative, Itä-Pasila asks what is it like to live in Helsinki’s Itä-Pasila neighborhood today? This residential environment embodies the ideals of 1970s social democracy and structuralist architecture. Has the urban utopia of the past been realised in Itä-Pasila, which is often even seen as a ghetto? Is there room for everyone to be themselves in this community model molded in concrete? What do we choose to preserve and pass on from our own cultures, and what do we take from the new environment? The film features the Symphony No. 1 by Jean Sibelius, which was used to smooth out the discords of different languages and politics into a unified idea of a country. It is again time to build a nation which embraces all its citizens.
