Anu Pennanen is a visual artist and filmmaker working at the intersection of moving images, architecture and social awareness. Her work, often based on close collaborations with individuals and collectives, portrays people who question the built environment they inhabit. It also contextualises and critiques public space and how it is planned and used. The situations she articulates are often fraught with social and emotional tension. Music is also an important integral part of Pennanen’s work.
Her works have been exhibited extensively: CCA Glasgow (UK); Frankfurter Kunstverein (DE); Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts, Auckland (NZ); Grand Café Saint-Nazaire (FR); KunstenFestivaldesArts Brussels (BE) Frans Hals Museum (NL); Liverpool, Istanbul, Manifesta and Momentum biennials and Kiasma Museum Helsinki (FI) among others.
