5, 50, 100 Years From Now is a short experimental video essay in which Neste gas station customers reflect on what they imagine to be in store for us: the development of transport, technology and climate change, a colony on Mars, human consciousness replaced by machines, street sides heated by burning barrels of rubbish, or information giants supplanting nation states. Departing from their wild imagination, Pennanen moves away from documentary realism and invites us to reflect on our ultimate relationship with nature. Her speculative dystopia helps us to imagine potential utopian alternatives.
